CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
ESTABLISHMENT OF A DATABASE
Assistant for a parliamentary body
Brussels
Contract staff (function group III) and temporary staff (AST 3)
1. General remarks
The Directorate-General for Citizens’ Rights, Justice and Institutional Affairs (DG IUST) of the European Parliament is one of the four Directorates-General created by dividing the former Directorate-General for Internal Policies. Its mission is to support Parliament in its legislative, budgetary and scrutiny roles and to ensure that Parliament operates effectively as a guardian of democracy, the rule of law and fundamental rights while remaining responsive to the needs of European citizens. DG IUST organises and facilitates the work of parliamentary committees in key areas such as culture, education, legal and constitutional affairs, gender equality, civil liberties, petitions and the protection of democracy.
As an assistant to a parliamentary body, you will help the committee secretariat to work efficiently by preparing meetings and documents, drafting correspondence and organising public hearings and missions. The role involves performing administrative, logistical and editorial tasks in a multilingual environment and ensuring smooth coordination both within and beyond Parliament.
If you are interested in joining a newly created and dynamic Directorate-General that is destined to grow and that invests in its people, then this call for expressions of interest is for you. We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic assistants to contribute to upholding Parliament’s democratic work and providing parliamentary committees with high-quality administrative support.
The Secretariat of the European Parliament is launching this call for expressions of interest to establish a database of candidates who may be interested in filling future vacancies for assistants for parliamentary bodies. This database will serve as a pool of candidates for potential recruitment, ensuring that there is a readily available talent pool to support Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) in their legislative work. Its primary objective is to enhance the assistance provided to MEPs, thereby contributing to Parliament’s efficiency and effectiveness in fulfilling its role as a key legislative body of the European Union.
Once the database is established, candidates whose names are included in the database may be selected to fill auxiliary contract staff vacancies for assistants for parliamentary bodies, under Article 3b of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Union (CEOS). These candidates will be selected in accordance with Article 7 (‘Joint committee for the selection of auxiliary contract staff (COSCON)’) and Article 8 (’Selection procedure for contract staff’) of Parliament’s General Implementing Provisions governing competitions and selection procedures, recruitment and the grading of officials and other servants of the European Parliament.
Less frequently, and subject to the availability of resources, candidates whose names are included in the database may also be selected as temporary agents to fill vacancies for assistants for parliamentary bodies in DG IUST, under Article 2b of the CEOS. These candidates will be selected in accordance with Article 4 (‘Joint Committee (COPAR)’) of Parliament’s General Implementing Provisions governing competitions and selection procedures, recruitment and the grading of officials and other servants of the European Parliament.
Parliament is an equal-opportunities employer and welcomes all applications without discriminating on any grounds, such as gender, skin colour, ethnic or social origin, genetic features, language, religion or belief, political or any other opinion, membership of a national minority, property, birth, disability, age, sexual orientation, marital status or family situation.
